Job Description:
The main responsibility for this role is to refine the go-to-market strategy for West Africa... and to implement and own it. It will be to establish TE's presence in these territories and set-up the appropriate channel to market, through a distribution model. In essence, build a TE business and represent the brand.
The successful candidate will need to attract and retain talent as well as promote the company in the eyes of the stakeholders, including the Nigerian government, through a marketing and public relations campaign. The result is an expected revenue of 10 million USD by the year 2017.
The role requires regular visits to the different countries (mostly neighboring) covered in these territories, as well as travel to Europe and South Africa for training and other business related meetings... therefore the ability and willingness to travel is a job requirement... as well as the necessary passport.
The role has a strong sales and business development focus, so planning and prioritisation of personal and team sales activities in order to achieve the agreed business goals and financial targets is also a requirement.
The general sales manager will also be required to manage or perform the following tasks:
1. The product mix, pricing and margins according to the stipulated TE guidelines.
2. To maintain and develop existing and new end-customers through the appropriate propositioning and ethical sales methods.
3. A high level of service to ensure the delivery of the expected levels of customer satisfaction.
4. Internal liaison and relationships within many TE departments is also a key to success.
5. Use customer and prospect contact activities tools and systems (e.g. Salesforce.com) and update relevant information held in these systems.
6. Plan/carry out/support local marketing activities to agreed budgets and timescales, and integrate personal sales efforts with other organised marketing activities, e.g. product launches, promotions, advertising, exhibitions and telemarketing.
1. Respond to and follow-up sales enquiries using appropriate methods. Monitor and report on market and competitor activities and provide relevant reports and information.
2. Record, analyse, report and administer according to systems & requirements.
3. Communicate, liaise, and negotiate internally and externally using appropriate methods to facilitate the development of profitable business and sustainable relationships.
4. Attend and present at external customer and partner and internal meetings with other company functions necessary to perform duties and aid business development.
5. Attend training and develop relevant personal knowledge, techniques & skills.
6. Adhere to health and safety policies, and other requirements relating to the care of equipment.
Desired Skills & Experience:
Required qualification: Tertiary qualification in related field, i.e. Commerce, Sales, Marketing, Engineering degree. Post graduate qualification (MBA or similar) advantageous.
Required experience: Minimum 10 years work experience in the Telecoms and/or related ICT sector. Specific functional experience required in sales management, business development, channel management and/or general management... with a good understanding of business process.
Achievements: Preference will be given to candidates with a proven track record in consistent target achievement and new business development. Examples to illustrate this performance will be required.
Personality traits: The successful candidate must be a "team player," with the ability to build relationships with both internal colleagues and external customers. A professionally assertive personality will be required. The candidate must be able to work independently, be self-motivated and have good time management. There are periods where working under stress and deadlines are a reality. This should not present a challenge to the individual. A high standard of ethics is a given.
Additional criteria: Fluency in English is required. Being able to speak the local vernacular is an additional benefit.
Understanding and experience of "INCOTERMS" is necessary. Business and financial acumen will be of assistance to you in this role. Existing industry relationships within these territories is paramount. We are expecting the candidate to be a "door opener."
