THERE seems to be no end to the shooting in Plateau State as suspected gunmen on Thursday attacked and killed five people in Jos South Council of the state.
The incident occurred at about 7.30 p.m. Thursday when some alleged armed men stormed the premises of Federal College of Land Resources Technology, Vom, and started shooting sporadically with a view to rustling cows within the premises.
A source close to the College said that the suspected gunmen killed the Chief Accountant of the College, Mr. Audu Chobe, his wife and their three-year old daughter in their sleep.
It was further learnt that the assailants who were said to be 20 in number also snuffed life out of the college's electrician simply identified as Hosea and Chief Security Officer, Mr. Haruna Danjuma and rustled his 30 cows within the vicinity.
Those within the vicinity further said that nine people within the college and nearby residential houses sustained fatal injuries. The unfortunate incident created tension and pandemonium in the locality forcing the people to stay indoors in the early part of yesterday.
The Police got to the scene of the incident shortly after the marauders had left. Those who sustained injuries are presently receiving treatment at the Christian Hospital Vom while five corpses were equally taken to the morgue in the hospital.
Dr. Samuel Dido, the Chief Medical Superintendent of the Hospital confirmed that five bodies were brought to the hospital and nine others who sustained injuries.
He appealed to both the federal and state governments to intervene in the cases of incessant attacks in the area, adding that such unfortunate situation was gradually becoming a phenomenon.
A statement issued by the Plateau State Police Command and signed by its Public Relations Officer, Apev Jacob confirmed the dastardly act, adding that Haruna who owned the rustled cattle had personally gone to Barakin-Ladi Local Council Area of the state to recover them, adding that he was one of those killed in the attack.
The command however assured the public of their security and enjoined them to go about their lawful businesses as the police and the State Task Force were on top of the situation.
