Title: Federal Government Plans Multi-year, Scenario Budget Option
Post by: NewsCaster on Feb 13, 2011, 12:00 PM
The Guardian - To address the perennial issue of poor project execution and curtail wastages arising therefrom, the Federal Government is exploring alternative means of budget formulation and implementation, with the touted idea of multi-year budgeting receiving serious attention. This is coming on the heels of disclosure by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Olusegun Aganga, that the introduction of electronic payroll has eliminated the menace of ghost workers, saving the country more than N12 billion.

The Minister said the introduction of the electronic mode of salary payment was deployed to 16 MDAs. According to him, a second rollout that will soon be extended to over 100 ministries, departments and agencies would save much more. "We are working on that and I hope to receive some results on that by the end of the month," Aganga said.

Minister of Finance, Dr Olusegun Aganga, while fielding questions from The Guardian during the week, said government is considering the option and has, indeed, done that.
