WITH an increase of N74 billion, the Delta State House of Assembly Wednesday in Asaba passed the 2013 budget.

The amount passed was N472 billion as against the initial budget proposal of N398.31 billion for the 2013 fiscal year announced on November 23, 2012 by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

At Wednesday's sitting, the budget was passed after a motion was moved by the Majority Leader, Monday Igbuya and seconded by Mr. Kennedy Dubri.

Following the increment, the 2013 budget is higher than the estimate for the previous year with about N35 billion as the overall figure stood at N437.21 billion for the 2012 fiscal year.

The new breakdown as passed by the lawmakers showed that the state would be spending N157,603,782,607.00 on recurrent while capital expenditure is expected to gulp N314,402,989,563.00.

The increment, according to the House Committee on Appropriation's recommendation, was to complete all mega projects of the state government before 2014.

Uduaghan had explained during the budget presentation that the original budget estimate comprised of N145.94 billion or 36.64 per cent for recurrent expenditure and N252.37 billion or 63.36 per cent for capital expenditures.

The governor said that the budget proposal showed a decrease of N38.9 billion or 8.9 per cent when compared to the year 2012 approved budget of N437.21 billion.
