Job Title: Librarian
Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Organisation: Channels Television (Channels TV)
Purpose:
• The librarian is responsible for providing library and research services for the organization and maintenance of the library and its collection.
Main Duties:
1. Develop and manage convenient, accessible library and information services.
2. Perform original cataloguing and classification of print, audio-visual and electronic resources.
3. Develop and maintain special indexing systems and files for special collection
4. Maintain the organization of library materials.
Main Activities:
• Ensure an accurate inventory resource
• Ensure efficient retrieval by users
• Search external database programs for the availability of cataloguing copy.
• Maintain inventories, computer statistics and generate reports as required.
• Develop and maintain cataloguing procedures.
• Distribute materials for cataloguing procedures.
• Determine the type of cataloguing required.
• Enter cataloguing data into the library's automated system.
• Provide library services in response to information needs
• Respond to daily request from staff.
Knowledge:
• Library policies, procedures, methods, ethics and professional standards.
• Library programming standards.
• Research and information gathering systems and methods.
• Organization and structure of library computerized information database systems
• Library systems for cataloguing acquisition and searching online bibliographic utilities
• Capabilities and information resources of internet and other electronic databases.
Skills:
• Ability to manage a library.
• Organizational skills
• Analytical and problem solving skills
• Decision making skills
• Computer skills including ability to computerize a library, spreadsheet, word-processing, emails, database, etc
• Time management skills.
Education:
• University degree in Library Science with 3-5 years of experience.
