CIA director nominee John Brennan sent a powerful message on Thursday when he wore an accessory (http://www.pownetwork.org/2007px/images/POW_Bracelets.html) that honored prisoner of war Bowe Bergdahl (http://www.pownetwork.org/gulfII/bergdahl.htm), an American captive held by the Taliban since 2009 (http://www.pownetwork.org/gulfII/bergdahl.htm).
Bergdahl went missing in Afghanistan on June 30, 2009 (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/27/father-of-prisoner-of-war_n_1549448.html). The Taliban released videos of Bergdahl, demanding $1 billion and the release of 21 Afghan prisoners in exchange for his release, according to the POW Network (http://www.pownetwork.org/gulfII/bergdahl.htm).
In addition to the bright yellow POW bracelet (http://www.pownetwork.org/2007px/images/POW_Bracelets.html), Brennan wore a black "9/11 Memorial" (https://www.911memorial.org/catalog/rubber-braceletwristband.html) bracelet that read "United By Hope" on the reverse side.
Brennan faced questions from the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday during his confirmation hearing (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/07/john-brennan-confirmation-hearing_n_2637557.html). The leak of a White House document (http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/msnbc/sections/news/020413_DOJ_White_Paper.pdf) outlining drone strikes was a prominent issue (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/07/john-brennan-leaks-media_n_2640205.html?utm_hp_ref=media) during the confirmation hearing.
Brennan's hearing was interrupted (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/07/john-brennan-hearing_n_2639285.html) by Code Pink protestors, resulting in a brief recess (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/07/john-brennan-leaks-media_n_2640205.html?utm_hp_ref=media) issued by Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.).
