Post by: Folami David on Feb 15, 2013, 11:35 AM
The Super Eagles have promised to deliver the 2014 World Cup ticket in appreciation of the love and support shown them by Nigerias led by the Head of State,President Goodluck Jonathan who showered with cash gifts, plots of lands in Abuja and national honours at a presidential reception Tuesday night in Abuja.
.
The players and officials specially commended President Jonathan for promising to support their campaign for the 2014 World Cup ticket in addition to the gifts he spalshed on them.
.
Eagles head coach,Stephen Keshi says the president's gesture will motivate both the players and the technical crew into going the extra-mile in future competitions.
.
"There is nothing to say again than to thank the president and Nigerians for the reception. I feel great and happy to be here and I must tell you that the president has also encouraged the team and I am sure that when next we call the players to come and play for Nigeria, they will be willing and ready to put in a 100% performance", says Keshi.
.
Defender,Efe Ambrose has said the Eagles will now shift focus to qualifying for next year's World Cup after they won the AFCON. Nigeria are top of a qualifying group that has Malawi, Namibia and Kenya with four points. ''We have qualifiers by next month and so I want to do my best and help Nigeria qualify for that'',he said. Dynamo Kyiv striker,Brown Ideye is also thrilled by the awards but says the team's focus is how to qualify for the Brazil 2014 mundial.
.
"We have to put the AFCON behind us and face the future which is the World Cup and Confederation Cup. We can do well in both competitions if we continue with the same spirit that won us the AFCON in South Africa.
.
"With the reception accorded us by the people and government of Nigeria, we are spurred to go all out to qualify for the World Cup and do well. I never knew that we could win the AFCON given the fact that we are a young team" he stated.
.
Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, believes that winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations will help Nigeria in the qualifiers for the World Cup.
.
"Personally, I feel fulfilled to be part of the winning team and we are not going to stop there. We still have the World Cup and we are going to do our best to make sure that we also do well in Brazil," says the former Enyimba goalkeeper.
.
"We can do it if we get the necessary support because the AFCON victory will definitely help us when the qualifiers for the Nations Cup resumes." Warri Wolves goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim added his voice: "I'm grateful to Nigerians who believed in us.
.
The feat could not have been possible if there was no love amongst us. Everybody worked for each other and there was no big ego in the camp. I also want to thank the president for the reward given to us.
