Junior workers in the employ of the Kwara State government are to start receiving a minimum wage of N18,000.

However, the outcome of the negotiation seemed not to go down well with most of the senior workers, as they felt shortchanged as a result of the outcome of the meeting with the government.
Under the agreement, the junior workers will receive the full N18,000 minimum wage while the senior workers from level 8 will benefit with 40 per cent of their salary being added to their salary.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Bisi Fakayode agreed that the take home pay of workers in the state is poor but blamed it on the dwindling fortunes of the state stressing that what is being implemented is what the state could afford presently.
Although many controversies trail the current payment system, labour leaders state that what they agreed with the government is a temporary arrangement and have also assured civil servants that it will be reviewed in future when the fortune of the state improves.
