Addressing a Press Conference, President of the Union, Comrade Michael Olukoya insisted that teachers' interest are not guaranteed under the local government system as its presently being operated and local government autonomy will only worsen the situation.
The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees had earlier condemned Comrade Olukoya's previous call for the abolishment of local government autonomy.
But Comrade Olukoya defended his position by stating that Local Government administration has had several draw backs for teachers in the country.
The listed the drawbacks as non-payment of salaries of primary school teachers nationwide, non-remittance of 7.5 percent counterpart funding from local government councils to the pension funds of the primary school teachers nationwide and total collapse of primary education in Nigeria.
