Title: News - Man killed in Lagos explosion
Post by: TGD on Feb 19, 2013, 01:31 AM
A MIDDLE-AGED man and the branch chairman of Lagos State Sand Dealers Association, Mr. Oladele Pius, was on Monday killed when a device, suspected to be a bomb, exploded at the FESTAC/Mile Two Link Bridge in Lagos, while two other persons, one of them a policeman, were injured.

However, the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Abubakar Umar Manko, has dispelled rumours that it was a bomb explosion. According to Manko, "it was an electrical explosion and not a bomb blast. The explosion hit one person; he was rushed to the hospital where he died."

"Another person who was hit is a policeman, as well as his friend who was beside him during the explosion, but he is alive. Based on what we know so far, it is not yet possible to determine whether the victim was a target or not. The impression there is not what all of you might be thinking, as it is so minor and by the time we finish our investigation we will be able to have the full details."

Meanwhile, an eyewitness, Ade Peter, who told The Guardian that he escaped death by the whiskers, said he was about getting close to Pius for a conversation when the explosion occurred, noting: "It was like a dream. I ran back as I watched Pius' body shattered to pieces."
