Title: I can die for Nigeria - Emenike
Post by: Folami David on Feb 22, 2013, 08:47 PM
Africa Cup of Nations Golden Boot winner, Emmanuel Emenike, has said that with the kind of reception and appreciation shown the Super Eagles after their AFCON success, he could die to bring more successes to the country.
.
Emenike told Complete Sports before he left to join his Russian club, Spartak Moscow, that he was overwhelmed by the the way the government and people of Nigeria appreciated the players and their officials from the airport through the streets, to the Presidential Villa.
.
The four-goal hero said that with such kind gesture, the Eagles would give their all to put more smiles on the faces of Nigerians, acknowledging wholeheartedly that victory is sweet.
.
"Before the AFCON, nobody gave us any chance of winning the cup, but we went there determined to do well for the country and enhance our careers. And thank God we got rewarded for our hard work. Our coaches led by Stephen Keshi were very confident that we had what it took to win, and they encouraged us to believe we could.
.
"I felt bad that I did not play in the final game against Burkina Faso, but I was optimistic that the other strikers would score and win the trophy. We worked as a team and I must say that we won the cup because of the unity and discipline in the camp," Emenike stated.
.
Emenike picked the match against Ivory Coast as one which he feared most, but said after coach Keshi rolled out his game plan, all the players were convinced that the team could beat the Elephants.
.
He also said that with the AFCON trophy now in the kitty, the next target will be to grab a World Cup ticket and do well at the Confederations Cup in Brazil in June, adding that playing against the likes of Spain and Uruguay will be wonderful.
