The board of Nigeria Baseball and Softball Federation (NBSF) has concluded plans for the country's U-12 baseball team to embark on a training tour of United States of America ahead of the forthcoming championship in China.

The Head of Media of the Federation, Ikenna Agu said the initiative was reached in a bid to ensure that Nigeria U-12 Baseball Team performs well in the forthcoming meet.

He said the Secretary General of NBSF, Kehinde Olaniyan confirmed the trip in the Rosebud college training camp of the national team.

Agu said that the choice of United States was due to the professional level of the game in US adding that "since we need the best, we have to go for the best."

"He said that the US training tour which is expected to come up in early July in Washington DC will also attract other nations that are rearing to make impact in the championship proper.

"He described the training tour as the second phase of the camping which will sharpen the skills of the lads from Nigeria to effectively confront any team from any part of the world", Agu quoted the Secretary General as saying.

He said the country was doing its best in making sure that Nigeria is well represented in the global stage, adding that the boys have impressed the technical official so much that they are now being tipped as one of the favourites of the championship.

"I strongly believe that those of them that will finally make it to Taipei can boldly beat their chest and said that it's a deserved one."

Also, the Technical Adviser of the team, Gerard Hall said that the team needs all the necessary exposure in order to confront world best like United States, Taiwan, China, Venezuela and Cuba.

He called for authorities to support the baseball players to ensure they get opportunities that baseball will give them.
