ACTING GOVERNOR CALLS FOR INCREASED SURVEILLANCE BY THE NIGERIAN ARMY AGAINST OIL BUNKERING IN THE STATE
The Acting Governor, Mr. Efiok Cobham has called on the Nigerian Army to increase its surveillance against oil bunkering in the state.
He further stressed the need for a mutual relationship and cooperation between the Army and the civilian populace to strengthen the democratic governance in the country.
The Acting Governor made the call in Calabar today during a courtesy call on him by the retiring General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major General OluwasuenOshinowo.
He said he was appreciative of the role of the members of the Nigerian Army in maintaining high level security in the state, thereby making Cross River crime free.
He commended the GOC for a meritorious service to the nation,having risen to the rank of Mojor General, as well as recorded no major incident between the Army and civilian populace within his area of command, throughout the period of his service.
Mr. Cobham, however, lauded the Basket Ball Tournament organized by the Nigerian Army, Which, according to him, would continue to boost the cordial relationship between the Army and civilian populace in the state.
Earlier, in his remarks, the General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu, Major General OluwaseunOshinowo, said his visit was to inform the state government of his retirement from service having served the mandatory years.
He thanked the state government for the supports and co-operations accorded the Nigerian Army especially the 13 amphibious brigade in Calabar and urged the governor to extend his benevolence to his successor.
While soliciting the State Government's continued support towards the Brigade in Calabar, the GOC, however, assured the Acting Governor of the Army's preparedness in making Cross River a crime free state.
Present at the courtesy call were some members of the State Executive Council.
High point of the ceremony was exchange of gifts between the Acting Governor, Mr. Efiok Cobham and the GOC Major General OluwasuenOshinowo.
