A lawyer representing the office of the Attorney General, Mr. Thompson Olatigbe made the submission on Wednesday before the House of Representatives committee on public petitions, which is investigating a petition on the murder of the late private secretary.
The committee also took testimony from the Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomole, who was at the hearing in person.
The hearing room was filled to capacity as officials from Edo State, the Police, the Department of State Security and the Nigeria Labour Congress were among those present.
The House committee is probing a petition against the police on alleged complicity and improper investigation of the murder of the late principal private secretary.
During the hearing, Governor Oshiomole explained why he believed the Police were not professional in their investigation of the case. The committee then took presentations from officials of the two security agencies – the police and the DSS – both of which have suspects in custody for the same crime.
Thereafter, Mr. Olatigbe made the submission of the Attorney General's office known before the House committee, saying they were yet to identify suspects in the murder of the late Oyerinde, a position that displeased the lawmakers.
The committee is expected to submit its recommendation to the whole House for consideration.
