Home Eagles Captain Dreams Another Victory After AFCON Win Super Eagles third choice goalkeeper, Chigozie Agbim, has said that after winning the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, the next target will be to win the CHAN, the tournament for home-based African players.
.
Agbim who is the captain of the home-based Eagles says it is shameful that Nigeria failed to qualify for the two previous editions of CHAN, noting that all that will soon be a thing of the past as they are set not only to qualify but to win the cup.
.
He reckons that the victory in South Africa by the Super Eagles will ginger the home boys to go all out to qualify, win the cup and fight for a place in the main national team, adding that Nigeria is blessed with abundant talents on home front to win CHAN in South Africa.
.
"I want to return to South Africa with home-based players and win again. We have to prove to the world that the Eagles' AFCON triumph is no fluke. We want to qualify and win CHAN this time around. Luckily for us, the team will be handled by the same coaches."
.
"The experience gained by some of us who were part of the Africa Cup of Nations winning team will be well utilised when the CHAN kicks off later this year.
.
It is going to be difficult, but we are positive that we would do well for our country," Agbim states.
.
On the bench role he played all through in South Africa, Agbim is upbeat that his time will come, stressing that Vincent Enyeama was excellent as the number one goalkeeper in South Africa, and that he learnt a lot from him.
.
Asked if he is thinking about plying his trade in Europe, Agbim states he would take his chance if it comes but is quick to add that some home-based players have proved that one can play for the Super Eagles even as a domestic league player.
.
The former Warri Wolves FC goalkeeper says the overwhelming reception accorded the Super Eagles was enough to propel them into winning more laurels for the country.
