(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/National-Sports-Commission-300x137.jpg) The National Sports Commission is set to host the Regional Group of Experts' Meeting on Intergovernmental Committee on Physical Education and Sports (CIGEPS) at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja from March 3rd – 7th. The Opening Ceremony of the meeting will be between 9:00 – 10:00 am on Tuesday, 5th March, 2013. CIGEPS, an arm of UNESCO was set up in 1978 with its focus on engaging government representatives and the sports movement to drive international efforts in the area of:
Sport and Physical Education; providing technical advice; commissioning research and identifying good practices to develop policy recommendations; reinforcing accountability of governments through the monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of policies and providing a platform for key decision-makers to exchange experiences.
The CIGEPS Commission II Experts will discuss researches carried out in "Promoting public investment in sport and physical education programme – how public investment makes good policy in physical education and sport".
The meeting will also deliberate on:
Access to Sports as a Fundamental Right for All; Preserving the Integrity of Sports;
Africa Sports Policy final Report – 2011; and Sports Policy framework for Africa – 2008-2018.
This is the first time that this high level expert conference in sport at the UNESCO level is being held in Nigeria. The outcome from the Abuja discussion shall constitute one of the subject areas to be considered at the extra ordinary session of CIGEPS taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Members of the sporting press are hereby invited to cover the opening ceremony of the CIGEPS meeting, which will be declared open by Mal. Bolaji Abdullahi, the Minister of Sports/Chairman National Sports Commission.
