Post by: Folami David on Mar 06, 2013, 01:35 AM
Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has told Complete Sports that he has total confidence in the domestic players, saying Nigerians should not be surprised if more of them are called to honour national assignments.
.
The 2013 AFCON winning coach who was speaking ahead of the March 23rd FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Harambee Stars of Kenya, said the home- based players have proved that they are talents that can be reckoned with and will not hesitate to give them more chance.
.
"I know that everybody is looking forward to seeing the players we are going to invite for the Kenya match, but I must tell you that it is an important match to us and we are going to invite the best because it is a match we want to win and we will go for nothing short of victory in the game," says the former national team captain.
.
When asked about the number of home-based players that will make the team against Kenya, he said:
"I have total confidence in the players because they have proved what they can do, though I cannot tell you the names of the players we have in mind for now. We are really working hard to make sure that we have more of them in the team because this will also help our preparation towards the CHAN tournament."
.
Keshi who has won the Africa Cup of Nations both as a player and as a coach also believes that the best of the home-based players can only be seen when they are given the opportunity to prove themselves.
.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles who are billed to begin their camping on March 23 will be looking forward to nothing short of victory in the encounter.
.
The recent AFCON conquest is also expected to help the players to win the match billed to hold at the UJ Esuene stadium in Calabar convincingly.
