(http://www.channelstv.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/lagos-traffic-300x228.jpg) (http://www.channelstv.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/lagos-traffic.jpg) The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr. Umar Manko has warned uniformed personnel who flout Lagos traffic laws to desist from doing so as the law does not exempt anyone.
This was after the Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola, took on the same issue during the Security Council on Wednesday, warning uniformed security agents to desist from flouting the law restricting the operation of commercial motorcycles in the state.
Mr. Manko stated that the law is a general one and therefore everybody, including uniformed security agents must comply with it.
"We have seen the extent of the enforcement of this law on commercial motorcycles on restricted areas and we have discovered that the non-compliance aspect of it involves more of our men in uniform. We want to restate that this law does not respect any uniform. It is a general law and everybody is duty bound to comply with it," the Commissioner said while answering questions from journalists.
According to him, "Officers and men still indulging in flouting the law should desist in their own interest and obey the laws. Anybody who decides to take the laws in his hands would face the consequences," he added.
LASU Miscreants
The Commissioner of Police also reassured students of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, that the security agencies were on top of the situation in their campus and would soon fish out all the miscreants in their midst to enable them go about their academic work without fear of molestation or threat to their lives.
"For the LASU students, they should go to their classes and read; the miscreants among them are going to be fished out and dealt with according to the law. That should not be a problem at all. They should be rest assured that they are part of Lagos State and the security in Lagos State is intact. They are going to benefit from that".
On the explosive device that went off at Mile 2 area of the metropolis recently, the Police boss said the incident did not depict a threat to the state as the various security agencies were on the alert.
"We want to reassure Lagosians that security in Lagos is still intact. People should go about their normal businesses; there is no threat from any quarter. For the small security issues like the blast in Mile 2 and the LASU problem, Lagosians can be rest assured that the security agencies are on top of the situation, there is no cause for alarm," he said.
On the forthcoming Easter celebration, the Commissioner said: "We have had that before, people should be very ready to go out and have fun....The Easter periods are not new and there is not going to be anything new about it. We are prepared for these events. The security men are on the alert and everybody is awaiting the period."
