(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/IMG_2926-300x225.jpg) The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is partnering the University of Uyo in the development of Space Research Centre in the institution.
Speaking during the inspection of projects at the University by members of the National Good Governance Tour on Thursday, the Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Ita Okon Bassey Ewa said the Centre is expected to be a unique one. "We are focusing on maritime and coastal environmental management", he disclosed.
Prof. Ewa said "there is a collaboration with UNESCO. The UNESCO Chairman will be coming here. Also Georgia Tech in the U.S.A has also been in touch with the University of Uyo. We are bringing Diasporans who are actually experts in Space and Aeronautics Engineering to participate in this University Project", the Minister stated.
Meanwhile, the NGGT Team was also shown a Cassava peeling project funded under the Step-B World Bank scheme being set up for commercialization. Officials at the institution said the project which was researched by the Faculty of Engineering is to achieve over 90 percent efficiency.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. (Mrs) Comfort Ekpo conducted the Team through some of the Capital and TETFund projects which include a central administration building and a Library Complex which is to have 150 workstations for students and a sitting capacity for about 3,000 library users as well as an ICT centre.
