(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Concept-Document-for-the-Nigeria-Centenary-pic4-214x300.jpg) As part of the activities leading to the celebration of Nigeria's Centennial Anniversary, the Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bolaji Abdullahi, Thursday, 7th March, 2013 inaugurated a 7 member Sports Sub-Sector Centennial Anniversary Committee.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Minister noted that the success recorded in the sporting sector in the last one hundred years has contributed immensely to Nigeria's national development.
He therefore enjoined the Committee to work assiduously to showcase the sports components and its impact as the rallying pivot for our national unity over the century.
The Committee has the following terms of reference:
· To coordinate and implement the sports sector activities of the Centennial Anniversary.
· To carry out any other responsibility as deemed fit by the Hon. Minister of Sports/Chairman, NSC towards the Centennial Anniversary celebrations.
Members of the Committee are:
1. Mr. Fabio Lanikpekun – Chairman
2. Mr. Kunle Solaja -member
3. Mr. Kayode Tijani – member
4. Mr. Olukayode Thomas – member
5. Mr. Ayotunde Adelakun – member
6. Mr. Obi Asika – member
7. Dr. Simon Ebhojiaye – Secretary
8. Dr. (Mrs) Kema Chikwe (Patron)
In his response, the Chairman of the Committee, Fabio Lanikpekun stated that the Committee would endeavour to work hard at ensuring that the contributions of the sports sub-sector are historic and memorable. He added that "The Committee will swing into action immediately as we barely have a few months to the epoch making celebration."
