PROFESSOR ADEOLUWA CANVASSES EDUCATIONAL MEDIA CENTRES IN LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

A Professor of Educational Technology at the Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, Olufemi Adeoluwa has recommended the establishment of a functioning Educational Media Centre in each Local Government Area of Nigeria. The Media Centres would afford teachers to brainstorm, design and produce instructional materials which could be useful to schools.

Professor Adeoluwa made the recommendation during the 35th Inaugural lecture of EKSU which he delivered on Tuesday 5th March, 2013 at Main Auditorium of the University.

In the lecture titled "Learning Problems and the Technology of Education," he noted that such Media Centres should also procure, store and loan out, from time-to-time, instructional materials needed in schools.

Professor Adeoluwa was of the opinion that such centres should be manned by Educational Technologists who are to be co-ordinated in every state by State Educational Media Centre, adding that such State Educational Media Centre should also be involved in the training of teachers.

The Professor of Educational Technology emphasized that teachers should be given opportunity of in-service training specifically in the application of Educational Technology in Primary and Secondary schools.

Professor Adeoluwa canvassed for the establishment of a Media Centre and Radio station in Ekiti State University. In his words "the radio station will be useful to divert attention of students from social vices." Earlier, the Inaugural Lecturer had enumerated several problems and challenges confronting Learning and Educational Technology in Nigeria.

At the end of the lecture attended by dignitaries from within and outside the University, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Patrick Oladipo Aina declared that the lecture was illuminating and with good recommendations which could bring Nigeria out of its numerous educational problems.
