Nigeria's Flying Eagles landed in Algiers by about 6.15 pm Wednesday ahead of the 2013 African Youth Championship.

The defending champions, who flew an Air Algerie Boeing 737-800 from Tunis, were warmly received by Nigerian Ambassador in Algeria, Haruna Ginsau, as well as a large turnout of Nigerian residents in the country.

The squad are booked into the Groupe Hotels Adghir in Algiers and are due to fly out to Oran Thursday morning on board another Air Algerie flight.

According to team secretary Ibrahim Lawal, there will be an arrival meeting for the team with the local organisers on Friday by 10am in Oran.

The pre-match meeting for Nigeria's opening Group B match against Mali, will take place on Saturday by 12 noon at the referees' hotel.

The match will kick off 5.30 pm.

The team's first official training will be on Saturday at the match venur between 5.30 and 6.30pm.

Meanwhile,Flying Eagles forward Christian Pyagbara has said his 17th birthday wish is for the team to successfully defend the AYC trophy they won two years ago in South Africa.

"I hope that my birthday will set the ball rolling for us to defend our crown in Algeria," said the exciting prospect, who is set to make his Nigeria league debut this season with Sharks of Port Harcourt.

"It has been a great learning experience for me with the national team and I wish to crown this with the trophy."

"The real birthday celebration will be after we retain our championship. It will be a big, big party then," he added.

The team prayed for the former Remo Stars players before they set off to the Tunis airport on their way to Algiers.

Pyagbara staked a strong claim for a place on the final 21-man squad after a superb two-goal show against Egypt in a warm-up game in Cairo, which the Flying Eagles won 3-1 last month.
