A five-floor building in Shanghai, China, now has a high rise evacuation slide that promises a 14 second-long escape, (http://www.shortlist.com/cool-stuff/design/emergency-slide-installed-in-stairwell)ShortList.com reports.
The slide can be attached to the banister of a building's staircase, and, in emergencies, is deployed with the simple push of a button.
Zhou Miaorong, the inventor, described his creation as "safe, rapid, simply constructed, easy to use, and economical in cost," (http://patentscope.wipo.int/search/en/detail.jsf?docId=WO2012126273&recNum=2&office=&queryString=FP:(evacuation+slide)&prevFilter=&sortOption=Pub+Date+Desc&maxRec=156) according to the World Intellectual Property Organization.
Mostly, it just looks fun.
