Godknows Igali has emphasized the need to tap the full potentials of water and agriculture for alternative sources of energy in a bid to scale up power generation and distribution in the country.
Speaking on assumption of duty, Ambassador Igali said the success of the Transformation Agenda in the power sector is hinged on adequate synergy among various agencies. He observed that all the dams lying idle in the country have not been put to optimal use insisting that they could be used to generate more power to be made available for distribution nationwide.
He therefore enjoined all Staff of the Power Ministry to make positive contributions in the task of banishing darkness in the land just as he tasked them to align with the resolve of supporting the political authorities. "Ministers are our bosses we must work diligently with them, they are the ones that signed performance bond with Nigerians. We can go beyond the over 4,000 Mega Watts we are presently producing, we must add value to what we have to do here, so that we can say that in the next few years we have doubled our generation and distribution capabilities", the Permanent Secretary said.
He further pledged to be accessible saying he is just first among equals. "I am ready to learn with the hope that after my tenure I would be admitted into the Nigeria Society of Engineers", he stated.
Earlier, the Director of Power, Engr. Sanusi Garba who presented handing over documents to the new Permanent Secretary said that the Ministry was happy that the Permanent Secretary was coming with robust understanding of the commitment of the Federal Government to power sector reform.
He assured the Permanent Secretary that the privatisation programme of Government in the sector is on course. Engr. Garba however noted that there were demands made by the labour unions which were yet to be addressed.
