Title: National Planning Minister advocates a review of 1st National Implementation Plan of NV20:2020.

(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Shamsuddeen-Usman-300x181.jpg)                        Minister/Deputy Chairman, National Planning Commission, Dr. Shamsuddeen Usman has explained that the review of the First National Implementation Plan (1st NIP) of Vision 2-:2020 (NV20:2020), is very necessary and significant to determine the progress that have been made in the plan so far

The Minister expressed this views during the formal presentation of the reportĀ  of the Central Working Group (CWG) and the Technical Working Groups (TWGs) on the review of the First National Implementation Plan of NV20:2020, Friday, 16th of March, 2013.

The Minister also mentioned that the review of the 1st NIP is crucial to government's effort to re position the nation's economy to be among the biggest in the world by year 2020.

"The review is necessary and important as this will help determine progress made in the plan and also crucial to government's effort to re position the nation's economy to be among the biggest in the world by year 2020", he said.

Accordingly he pointed out that strategic planning is coming back to Nigeria and therefore urged the States, Government's Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), to develop their own strategic plan drawing from the Nation's strategic plan approach.

The Minister also dismissed insinuations that the infrastructure master plan is a distraction to the vision 2020, arguing that the infrastructure development plan, has its place in the vision 2020 plan.

He then called for the setting up of a strong Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) departments in States, insisting on the need to be measuring performance.

Speaking earlier, the chairman of the CWG, Chief Moses Akpobasa, who was a former Director General Budget and Planning, said that the 1st NIP was well executed by the Federal Government and States especially in the area of agriculture and educational reforms.

Mr. Akpobasa, then hailed the Nigerian economy saying that when other countries were facing financial crises, Nigeria was able to grow her GDP above 6.5% and also commended the sources of the growth as satisfactory.
