Title: National Council on Science and Technology kicks off in Ibadan, Oyo State

The 12th National Council on Science and Technology kicked off in Ibadan, Oyo State today, with the theme "Science, Technology and Innovation: Catalysts for the actualisation of the transformation agenda.

Speaking at the opening ceremony which held at Premier Hotel, Ibadan, the venue of the event, the Permanent Secretary,  Federal Ministry of Science and Technology,  Mrs Rabi Jimeta, who was represented by the Director General, Sheda Science and Technology Complex ( SHESTCO) , Professor Sunday Thomas, said science and technology such be given the pride of place in Nigeria, stressing that participants should take the meeting seriously,as issues generated. Will help in the development of science and technology and the realization of vision 20: 2020 of the present administration.

Earlier, the Oyo State permanent secretary  in the ministry of Applied Science and Technology, Dr. Augustine Olaniyi Okesola challenged participants to use science and technology to blaze new trails for NIgerians wherever they may reside., adding that science and technology should be used to set new records that will remain as indelible testimonies and credits to individual names in the future.

Science and technology, he added, should be deployed in the service of humanity or the advancement of the human race.

In his address, the Commissioner of Industry and Applied Science and Technology, Engineer, Abiola Ladoja urged Nigerian scientists to  come together and contribute to national development so as to prevent the prediction that Nigeria may become a failed state from happening. He assured that Oyo state will continue to make contributions towards the development of science and technology in the country.

It would be much better if it can actually spread to other states so there would be even development in Nigeria. This is a very fantastic initiative
