Title: Were and Juma dropped from squad
Post by: Folami David on Mar 20, 2013, 11:34 AM
AFC Leopards winger Paul Were and Sofapaka's Abdalla Juma will not be in the Harambee Stars' travelling contingent as the team prepares for the World Cup qualifier against Nigeria in Calabar.
.
Were was judged not to be at right levels required by the technical team after watching him over the weekend and in training with the national team, while Abdalla Juma sustained a thigh injury that forced the coach to think otherwise.
.
This was confirmed by assistant coach James Nandwa, who also revealed that they have been replaced by Peter Opiyo and Crispin Odula.
.
"Were was not at the standards we require physically for players to take part in the game and we even watched him during his team's game at the weekend and in training, and decided he be replaced by Tusker FC's Peter Opiyo. Opiyo has good experience at this level and we believe he will be a great replacement," he said.
.
"Sofapaka FC's Abdalla Juma will also not be on the travelling players' list. He sustained a thigh strain that we are not sure will heal before the game and we also did not want to rush him to action.
.
He has thus been replaced by Crispin Odula of Bandari who is more of a like-for-like defender."

This is definately a big blow to Kenya national team. They would be missed on the field of play. Let them look for capable replacements
