(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/youths-3-300x291.jpg) The Federal Government has again charged youths to rise up against the wave of terrorism, especially in the northern part of the country, just as it has given assurance of continuous collaboration with any group of Nigerians whose objectives include the sustenance of the corporate existence of the country and the promotion of its peace and security.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Aliyu Isma'ila gave the charge and assurance when he received the national executive members of the Adamawa Youth Awareness Forum who were in his office to honour him with their 2013 Public Service Excellence Award.
According to the Permanent Secretary, the current security situation in the country has posed a great challenge to the youths of Nigeria whose future is being compromised and, regrettably, it's the youths themselves that are being used as agents of destabilization.
He charged members of the Forum to evolve ways of educating the youths of Adamawa, and Nigeria at large, on the dangers posed to their future by the current wave of terrorism, ethnic and religious animosities and other forms of criminalities across the nation, and the need for them to refrain from being used to destroy the own future.
Isma'ila also reminded them of their responsibilities to the nation by giving information on suspicious and criminal elements within their respective communities to security agents, as according to him, the police and other relevant agencies can achieve little without the cooperation of the populace. Security, he told them, is everybody's business.
The Permanent Secretary informed the forum that the on-going reform programme of the Nigeria Police is to, among other things, evolve a people-friendly and effective Police Force and to also make the Force attractive to young, credible and educated Nigerians to join.
Speaking earlier, the President of the forum, Comrade Jude Barka Wakawa said the forum was formed in 2007 in realization of the need to mobilize young sons and daughters of Adamawa State for the purpose of fostering religious and ethnic harmony in the state, and to also partner other similar organizations across the nation for the same purpose.
According to him, the forum selected the Aliyu Isma'ila for its 2013 Public Service Excellence Award in recognition of his impeccable service to the nation as a public servant, which has seen him rising to the position of Federal Permanent Secretary.
Comrade Wakawa promised that the Adamawa Youth Awareness Forum will continue to cooperate with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies in order to promote peaceful co-existence amongst the diverse religious and ethnic people of Adamawa and the nation at large.
