Youths in Atakar village, Kaura Local Government area of Kaduna State on Wednesday went on rampage to protest the alledged killing of a hunter, Stephen Abui by herdsmen.

Sources from the area said the youths including women vandalised the residence of the Village Head, Chief Tobias Nkom-Wada who tried to pacify them, forcing him to flee the village.

Reports said the mob also burnt down about 150 houses belonging to Fulani herdsmen in Sabon gari area of the local government.

One of the victims, Muhammadu Chiroma a telephone interview said that 350 cows were killed and about 2,000 others missing.

According to him, the attack was also carried out in Tinariya, Kirin and Gahai villages in Ryom Local Government area of Plateau.

He said the situation was now calm after the deployment of security personnel but that most of the victims had fled the area.

Alhaji Ahmed Maiyaki, Director General, Media and Publicity to Gov. Mukhtar Yero also said that security agents had restored peace to the affected area.

He said the governor had directed for full investigation into the incidence, adding, "until this is done we cannot ascertain the level of casualty involved".

He urged the people of the state to live peacefully with one another, assuring that the government was committed to restoring peace and unity in the state.
