United Nation Organizations, declared 22nd March, every year as Word Water Day to raise awareness on the increased cooperation for water resources management and challenges facing the water management.
The Theme of this year's celebration is "International year for Water Cooperation (IYWC)".
The celebration will highlight the history of successful water cooperation initiatives and also identify emerging burning issues on water education, water diplomacy, trans-boundary water management, financing cooperation, National/ International legal frameworks amongst others.
To kick start activities for the celebration, is a sensitization walk to begin from UNESCO Office and terminate at NTA headquarter Area11, Garki Abuja on 21st March, 2013.
Other activities scheduled to hold on 21st March, 2013 at Rockview Hotel, Abuja are awards to encourage and motivate stakeholders, State Governors, and Civil Society Organization and private sector who have worked in critical areas of Provision of safe drinking water and sanitation in different communities within Nigeria.
Also there would be round table discussion between the Minister of Water Resources and Stakeholders in the Water Sector on 22nd March, 2013 at International Conference Centre (ICC) Abuja.
