In accordance with the provisions of section six (6), sub-section one (1) of the Bayelsa State Secret Cults/Societies and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Law, 2012, that any member of a secret cult who voluntarily renounces his membership of the cult and submits any offensive weapon in his possession to the Police shall be free from prosecution under the law, the Bayelsa State Government, is making it abundantly clear to members of secret cults in the state to explore this window of opportunity provided by the law and change for the better.
Sub-section 2 (two) of this law further states that, the renounciation shall be made by sworn affidavit submitted to the Attorney-General of the State.
And, as part of a genuine plan to carry every dedicated and law abiding youth along in its new youth empowerment programmes, which includes training and engagement, Government, under the auspices of the office of the Special Adviser on SECURITY and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on CIVIL SOCIETY, calling on all members of secret cult groups, including those in higher institutions of learning in the State to take advantage of the provisions of this law and renounce their membership of cult groups.
This is part of Government's efforts at further extending the olive branch to supposed repentant members of cult groups in the State, who still indulge in criminality, especially in our rural communities across the State to be reintegrated into the society.

The period for the exercise is between Wednesday, 20th of March and Friday, 5th of April, 2013, excluding weekends.
To demonstrate Government's commitment to this project, His Excellency, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, Governor of Bayelsa State will meet with all renounced cultists at a later date to discuss and arrange for proper security of their lives as well as ways to engage and empower them.
