The Ogun State Government is partnering with the National Enterprise Development Programme (NEDEP) to drive inclusive economic growth through skills training and development, job creation and wealth generation.
Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru made this disclosure in Abeokuta at a 3-day awareness creation and capacity building workshop on Access to Renewable Energy (AtRE) project organized by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in collaboration with the Bank of Industry and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
According to him, the NEDEP programme would create 3.5 million direct jobs and an estimated 5 million indirect jobs between 2013 and 2015, adding that it would also focus on skills acquisition, entrepreneurship training, business and access to finance.
Ashiru pointed out that this was in addition to a total of 3000 direct and over 30,000 jobs already created through the State Government’s collaboration with the Bank of Industry on loan scheme for Micro Small and Medium-scaled Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state.
“As I speak, a total of 460 individuals from 46 cooperatives have benefited from this scheme. I can also confirm that we have 37 cooperative societies being processed, and this will culminate in the creation of thousands of new jobs.” He declared.
Otunba Ashiru noted that the BOI/UNDP Access to Renewable Energy (ATRE) project which is underway in the State would ensure universal access to modern energy services which is key to developing MSMEs.
