(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Sarah-Reng-Ochekpe-283x300.gif) Federal Ministry of Water Resources and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) are to collaborate to raise awareness on the use and water management in the Country.
Mrs. Sarah Reng Ochekpe, the Minister of Water Resources made this known when she paid an official visit to the Acting Director General, Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) as part of the activities to mark 2013 World Water Day.
Mrs Ochekpe said that NTA is collaborating with the Water Resources Ministry especially in creating awareness on water resources management.
"We thank you for your support, you are not only collaborating with us but you are creating awareness to Nigerians to ensure effective management of water".
She said that despite the fact that we have water in abundance in the country, we must use it wisely, the need for water keeps increasing and it appears that some people are still ignorant in the way they use water, they have not cultivated the habit of managing it, hence a need for proper awareness campaign on the management of water.
Ochekpe said that the objective of World Water Day is to ensure access to water and create awareness on its usage with emphasis on collaboration as no Government or organization can shoulder the responsibility of providing potable water to Nigerians; hence the need for partnership with private sectors and civil society organizations to ensure accessibility and proper management of water.
Speaking on the just concluded Presidential summit on water, the Minister applauded NTA for its coverage of the summit, saying that organizations outside Nigeria have started indicating interest to partner with Nigerian Government to invest in water sector.
She solicited further cooperation not only on World Water Day but to sustain the cordial relationship existing between the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and the NTA.
In his remarks, the Acting Director General of NTA Alhaji Musa Maiyaki, who congratulated the Minister for a very successful Presidential Summit on Water, said that the importance of water in human life cannot be over-emphasized.
He assured the Minister that NTA remains committed to publicizing all activities of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.
The Minister and the Management Staff of the Ministry of Water Resources had earlier embarked on sensitization walk from UNESCO Office to the NTA Headquarters, Abuja.
