Harambee Stars skipper Dennis Oliech was delighted after Kenya fought to a 1-1 draw with African champions Nigeria in a World Cup qualifying match played in Calabar on Saturday.

"When I came to Nigeria, I was very optimistic and personally my dream was to break the long jinx that has seen them thrashing us on several occasions."

"It was a tough game and no one gave us a chance coming to the match as underdogs but we pushed and shoved the Super Eagles and at one point in the game they all panicked sensing defeat however inexperience caused us at the last minute as we could not hold onto the solitary goal," Oliech said.

"My teammates delivered and we kept on the belief.

We kept on the fight and worked relentlessly as a team giving Nigeria a tough time. As a team we wanted a win after it became evident during half time that things were in our favour but in the end we lost concentration and conceded.

"But even that cannot demoralise us at all as this is the first time we will be going home with a draw from Nigeria."

"I believe we have a very good coach in Adel Amrouche who should be given ample time by all stakeholders as he has great dreams of changing the team's fortunes since he bonds so well with the players and this is what we have been lacking for years. The challenge ahead is difficult but I believe nothing is impossible," Oliech added.
