Erstwhile Super Eagles midfielder, Thompson Oliha has criticized the team for their poor display in Saturday`s FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifying tie against the Harambee Stars of Kenya.

The Eagles playing their first game since winning the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, were expected to run over the Harambee Stars that they have never lost to, prior to this encounter.

But it was the East Africans who took a shock lead in the 36th minute through Francis Nyambura, who curled a superb free kick past Vincent Enyeama, in goal for Nigeria. Nnamdi Oduamadi's late strike however earned a point for the Super Eagles, denying Kenya a first victory in their 13th encounter with their more illustrious opponent.

Oliha, a member of the Super Eagles squad that won the 1994 AFCON in Tunisia, was unimpressed with the performance of the players and believed they were lucky not to have lost the game.

He declared, "The Super Eagles played badly and I must say they were just lucky to have earned a point from the game".

"There was no commitment from the players. It was a different team from the one we saw at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

"It would have been worse, but thank God they were able to equalize at the end. It`s important that they remain focused, as we cannot afford to miss out on the World Cup with our status as African Champions" Oliha sums up.

In the other Group F game, Malawi secured a vital away win against Namibia in Windhoek.
I totally agree with him on this one. Though the team played very well but it doesn't change the fact that we were lucky to get that late equaliser
