Vice President Sambo made this appeal during the PDP North-West special zonal Executive Committee meeting, which held in Kaduna Saturday, 23 March, 2013 .
He said, "We must shun all overtures by those who are bent on destroying the Party through anti-Party activities and be unified in our quest to strengthen a Party that has made its mark and improved the lives and well-being of our citizens. We must be unified and steadfast for the growth and strength of our great party and in the interest of our dear citizens."
The Vice President described the reconciliatory moves of the Party's National Working Committee led by the Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, as apt saying that it is in line with the reconciliation, reformation and rebuilding agenda of the party chairman.
He seized the occasion to urge members to unite as the Party's greatest asset was its unity of purpose "And acceptability as the only national party that has as its centrepiece, the popular slogan "Power to the People."
Vice President Sambo further seized the opportunity to call on those yet to join the PDP family to join "As it is the only party with a clear conscience and manifesto aimed at transforming our dear country for good", adding that "Like the saying goes there are only two Parties in Nigeria, the PDP and others."
Vice President Sambo reiterated the determination of the President Goodluck Jonathan's Administration to deliver on its pledge to positively impact on the socio economic status of Nigerians as contained in the tenets and manifesto of the PDP.
While speaking, the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur stated that the purpose of the gathering was to solidify the unity of the party as members of one inseparable family. He enjoined all members to unite and work for the success of the party.
While noting that there were challenges, he however stressed that members have resolved to sink their differences in the spirit of peace and unity adding that it is only the PDP that has a national outlook.
Alhaji Bamanga Tukur stated that PDP being a grassroots party would continue to grow from strength to strength and deliver on its manifesto. He seized the opportunity to congratulate all the party members in the zone for the successes recorded by the party in the zone.
In their separate remarks, other speakers at the event including the host, Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, Katsina State Governor, Alhaji Shehu Shema, who spoke on behalf of his counterparts in the zone, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi who spoke on behalf of the legislators in the zone, the PDP National Vice Chairman North-west Zone, Senator Ibrahim Musa Kazaure, and the Kebbi State PDP chairman who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, all tasked members on the need for unity, acknowledging that the zone boasts of the largest membership of the Party in the country.
The event witnessed by staunch PDP members like the former Kaduna State governor, Alhaji Lawal Kaita, also had the attendance of several members drawn from the zone. The zone comprises of Kaduna, Kano, Zamfara, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kebbi and Katsina States.

Sambo is extremely right on that one. That is all the party needs now. All this violence should stop once and for all and move on to better things.
