Title: Bayelsa State - Gov Dickson Commends Project Monitoring Committee; Urges Strict Compliance with Standards

Governor Henry Seriake Dickson has urged the Directorate of Project Monitoring and Evaluation to ensure that contractors adhere strictly to Government's set standards in the execution of on-going projects in the state.

The Governor made the call, during a meeting with the Chairman and members of the Directorate at Government House in Yenagoa.

Hon. Dickson underscored the importance of the meeting, stating that it is among other things to enable him know the constraints and issues affecting them because of the magnitude of the assignment they have been saddled with.

According to him, "Going forward, I want to see a more a pro-active project implementation and monitoring and evaluation endeavour, because the systems we have put in place are such that unless you have a certificate, things don't move forward, and particularly at a time we are dealing with the aftermath of the devastating flood".

He recalled the promise he made to Bayelsans during his inauguration that his administration was going to embark on massive construction infrastructure across the state.

This, Hon. Dickson noted, has been fulfilled adding, "when I promised the people of this state during my inauguration that it was going to be work, work, and the whole state was going to be a construction yard, I think a number of people thought, that it was a mere political grandstanding. But, now they know that when I say something, I mean exactly what I say".

The Governor commended the members for the wonderful job they have done so far in the task of repositioning the infrastructural development of the state.

He urged them not to be overwhelmed by the magnitude of their assignment, in view of the numerous on-going construction activities in the state.

Hon. Dickson assured them of Government's preparedness to assist them function better in the discharge of their assignment.

The meeting later went into a close-door session, after which the Chairman of the Directorate, Chief Walter Feghabor-Amain presented a performance evaluation report to the Governor.
