Three-time Nigerian champions, Dolphins FC, have continued to lead from the front in the use of social media platforms in the country's Professional Football League.

In a bid to put the club on the world map and dispense accurate information about their activities, Dolphins have kept exploring the use of new media and social media to full advantage.

The Port Harcourt club became the first Nigerian top flight team to get a Facebook page and later followed up with a Twitter account.

Dolphins' use of new media and social media platforms has led to a long list of clubs vying in the NPFL and the second tier, the Nigeria National League (NNL), to toe the same line of using the window of opportunities to shore up fan base on the Internet and disseminate information from their clubs as well.

Already, top flight clubs such as 3SC, Enugu Rangers, Kwara United, Kano Pillars and Lobi Stars have Twitter accounts while Enyimba have just a Facebook page currently with 3,210 likes from their fans.

NNL clubs like COD United, DSS FC, Remo Stars and Abia Warriors among others have Twitter handles.

Currently, Dolphins have 1,180 followers on their Twitter account while Enugu Rangers' account opened in December 2012 already boasts of 1,195 followers - the highest by any Nigerian club on Twitter.

But Dolphins have now added a new chapter in the advent of the use of new media and social media networking site by introducing their YouTube channel, DolphinsFCTV.

The club's spokesman, China Acheru explained that the move is to get "the club closer to the people" with visuals of daily happenings at the club.

"Once again we have another first as regards what we have done in getting the club closer to the people," Acheru said on Wednesday.

"Remember, we were the first Nigerian top division club to get a Facebook fan page, the first to get a Twitter account and now this.
.
"We know other clubs will copy us now but it doesn't matter because we have once again shown that we indeed lead the way in these things."

Acheru disclosed that their YouTube channel can be accessed on PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones through the link DolphinsFCTv - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/dolphinsfctv).

"Right now we are bringing to you just post-match interviews but soon you will be getting exclusive footage from within the club as well as clips of matches played and great goals scored by the club."

Dolphins have won the NPFL in 1997, 2004 and 2011.
