Minister of Sports and Chairman of National Sports Commission, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, has said that the 1-1 draw the Super Eagles played with Harambee Stars was good for the national team. Speaking with the media in Abuja yesterday, Abdullahi said he was not disappointed by the Super Eagles drawing their first match after winning the Africa Cup of Nations because "uneasy lies the head that wears the crown".
.
He said it was a good thing that the Kenyans brought the Super Eagles down to earth from the euphori. that followed their Afcon win, adding that it was a wake-up call for them to face the reality on the ground.
.
"I was not disappointed because I knew it would come to that. They needed to be re-awakened from their extended celebration. They should realise that the Afcon is out of the way and that the task ahead is qualifying for the world cup in Brazil.
.
"I believe the Eagles would beat the Kenyans if they get back in their stride. The Kenyans came with a game plan to frustrate the Eagles and get a result. I don't see anything spectacular about them," he stated.
.
On the issue of starving the NFF of funds, the minister stated that the NSC cannot stop any money meant for the football ruling body because there is a process which funds get to them.
.
He carpeted the marketing department of the NFF for not doing much in the branding of the Eagles adding that they need to work harder to raise money for their programmes.
The draw isn't good enough in my opinion but it is better than nothing. Kenya proved to be a force to reckon with in African football
I also do not agree the draw is good enough because we're in a very tight corner right about now. We need to win games from now on
