In a statement by the chief press secretary to the governor, Ugochukwu Emezue, the Abia helmsman said that he received the news with great shock and sadness.

According to the governor, chief Awolowo who died in London at the age of 70 will be remembered for his immense contribution to the development of the nation during his lifetime.

Chief Orji declared that late Oluwole Awolowo endeared himself to all who came across him with his humility and gentleness, not minding the fact that he was the great son of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

The governor sent his condolences to his colleague , chief Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state and especially the wife of the late elder statesman, chief (Mrs.)HID Awolowo.

He prayed God to give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

For the governor, the Awolowos should take heart, bearing in mind that it is God that gives life and only Him can take it.
