Are you ActionAid Nigeria's new Disaster Resilience Advisor?
ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) is looking for an academic professional to work within disaster preparedness and resilience. ActionAid Nigeria has worked on conflict & other emergencies over the last 8 years, with focus on supporting communities to put in place measures that enhance Disaster Risk Reduction, Peace Building and carry out Conflict Analysis, training and activities that ensure Human Security. This work has been done in more than 20 of the Nigeria's 36 states. Additionally, ActionAid Nigeria has supported networks in taking advocacy issues forward (e.g. presenting policy recommendations) with the Federal and state Governments. ActionAid started its intervention in Nigeria in 1999, while the programmatic operations commenced in January 2000. AA Nigeria's works are currently spread across 26 States in Nigeria. AAN's prioritised programming areas are Education; Food and Agriculture; Human Security in Conflict and Emergencies; Health; Just and Democratic Governance and Women Rights. Promoting the right to just and democratic governance and Women's Rights are cross-cutting themes which apply across the whole programme, but also have stand-alone initiatives. The Disaster Resilience Advisor is placed through the People4Change program; which is a people-to-people support programme providing development support to ActionAid and her partner organisations. People4Change promotes cross national solidarity and innovative approaches for capacity development initiatives. Therefore, this placement is only eligible for applicants, who are not Nigerian nationals nor have permanent residency in Nigeria. Job tasks include:
• Supporting ActionAid Nigeria and partners within the Human Security Network to develop capacity to assist communities to develop their own Response Plans.
• Facilitating state agencies to develop short and medium-term strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction
• Facilitating Conflict Sensitive Training for AAN Partners including LRP Partners
• Facilitating Emergency Response/ Disaster Risk Reduction Training for Networks, Media and organizations
• Enhance capacity on Resilience and Emergency Response in line with HRBA principles for ActionAid staff and partners in order to appropriately respond to Disaster.
• Support ActionAid Nigeria and the partners of the Human Security Network with their advocacy at local and national levels
Required qualifications:
• Required formal education minimum: Bachelor's degree in Humanities, • Minimum of 7 years work experience and at least 3 years' experience working with Disaster Resilience. • Skills in Disaster Risk Reduction/Conflict Analysis, development of policy briefs and strategy development • Skills in capacity building, especially in facilitating training, providing mentoring or accompaniment support • Mainstreamed focus within all AAN work required understanding of working with: Gender Mainstreaming and Women's' Right Integration; Youth/Vulnerable groups empowerment, and advocacy work.

Timelines:
• April 18th: Shortlisted candidates are contacted
• April 22nd – 23rd: First round of phone/SKYPE interviews with shortlisted candidates.
• May 3rd: Personality Assessment feedback via phone/SKYPE
• May 9th – 10th: Face-to-Face interviews of the final two candidates at ActionAid Nigeria office in Abuja
All applicants will be notified after the final selection. Starting date: 1st of July 2013 Contract start is subject to approval of work and residence permit. The assignment is for 12 months, with the possibility for renewal.
