Propcom Mai-Karfi is a six year DFID funded (£25m) programme that aims to increase the incomes of poor men and women in northern Nigeria by: (a) stimulating sustainable, pro-poor growth in selected rural markets; and, (b) improving the position of poor men and women within these market systems, to make them more inclusive for poor people. GRM International manages the programme on behalf of DFID. The programme will select a minimum of eight rural markets, both agricultural and non-agricultural, and in each the programme will use in-depth analysis to identify priority constraints, and develop and implement interventions that address them. Propcom Mai-karfi's opening portfolio of markets is soy, seeds, 'soap with hand washing', village chicken, fertiliser and tractors. Propcom Mai-karfi started in January 2012 and will continue until 2018.
GRM international is hiring a Market Group Director to lead and manage market development activities of the Market section of the programme, ensuring that logframe milestones and targets are achieved. The Market Group Director will be accountable for the successful implementation of market development activities through the effective leadership and management of the Market group which is expected to consist of 17 technical staff including four Market Section Managers.
Propcom Mai-karfi is one of DFID's flagship Making Markets Work for the Poor (M4P) projects. This is an opportunity to lead market development activities and make a significant contribution to an internationally recognised project. It is likely that the Team Leader position will become vacant by 2015. It is GRM's intention to recruit an exceptional candidate for the Market Group Director role who has the potential to succeed the Team Leader at that time.
You will demonstrate:
• Relevant bachelors' degree in business, agriculture, economics or related field;
• At least 10 years' experience in a senior management position, including in large donor funded international development projects, preferably DFID and in client facing roles with budget responsibility;
• Strong technical track record in private sector development and in particular in the field of market development/making markets work for the poor (M4P);
• Ability to identify viable commercial opportunities that have a public benefit;
• Familiarity with results chains, intervention guides and other M4P tools;
• Excellent report writing and oral presentation skills;
• Experience working in post-conflict or fragile states;
• Experience of working in Nigeria and/or Nigerian language skills is an advantage.
