Title: Sunday’s Explosion In Abuja Not Terror Act - Police

The Police in Abuja said on Tuesday that the explosion which occurred at Karu in the FCT on Sunday was not an act of terror.

The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Mr Femi Ogunbayode, told newsmen in Abuja that the blast occurred when a commercial explosive device was "ignorantly" detonated in a refuse fire by a security guard.

"The bomb disposal squad was deployed to the scene, an uncompleted building behind an eatery, after the blast.

"Initially, we thought the blast was from disposed canisters of insecticide, later it was discovered that commercial explosive device was detonated by a security guard.

"He set the fire and ignorantly threw the device into it, the guard was not injured and there was no casualty," he said.

Ogunbayode said the police anti-bomb squad combed the scene and recovered five unexploded devices.

He added that some devices were allowed by law, especially for quarry works, and advised the public not to panic. (NAN)

The explosions are too naughty nowadays. It is happening too often and its annoying.
