Job Title: Head, Legal and Regulatory Affairs

The role: Responsible for managing the legal department, providing legal advisory services to the business, and ensuring effective management of legal and contractual risks . Responsibilities also include ensuring compliance with appropriate statutory and regulatory provisions, and management of board relationships.

Functions:

•   Provide advisory services on issues that relate to legal and regulatory requirements and liaise with relevant regulatory bodies

•   Manage relationships with external solicitors and ensure compliance with agreed service levels

•   Manage all corporate affairs and communications on behalf of the organization

•   Draft, negotiate, administer, interpret and advise on agreements, letters, forms and other legal documents related to the organization as required

•   Participate in the articulation of the organization's strategic goals and objectives

•   Review and authorize all expenditure/transactions of the legal department in line with the approved departmental budget and organizational policy

•   Provide all guidance, leadership support and strategic direction in the execution of the legal department duties

•   Keep abreast of best practices, changes in regulation, amendment of enabling laws and advice the organization accordingly

Requirements:

•   Minimum of a 1st degree in Law, an LLM in Commercial law will be an added advantage.

•   Minimum of 10 years post call experience, with experience in oil & gas, energy and manufacturing industries

•   In-depth knowledge of international and local business and commercial law

•   Experience in handling regulatory affairs and legal matters in the power sector will be an added advantage

•   Prior involvement in big ticket and complex transactions is desirable
