(http://fmi.gov.ng/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/DG-NEMA-300x224.jpg) Further to the resettlement of displaced persons in Bauchi State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has delivered more relief items to support the State Government towards early integration of the people who have fled from the state for cover.
The Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani-Sidi who delivered the items to the Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda said that the gesture was in conformity with the previous assistance extended after satisfactory consideration of commitments by the State Government as well as the willingness of the displaced persons to remain in the state.
According to him, Bauchi State has set a good record for other states to emulate in helping distressed people in their localities. He assured them that NEMA would always collaborate with the stakeholders including the state and local governments for efficient and effective disaster management in the country.
Muhammad Sani-Sidi reminded the states that are yet to establish their own State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs) to do so without further delay. He urged the state governments to support their emergency management agencies to be fully operational; especially to be able to address situations within their capabilities and refer only overwhelming situations for federal assistance. The DG of NEMA called on states to take timely actions concerning the predictions of likely floods as experienced last year by adopting necessary measures to prepare ahead of time.
Receiving the items, the Bauchi State Governor who was represented by the Bauchi State Head of Service, Abdon Gin thanked NEMA for the kind gesture and assured that the materials would be distributed to the beneficiaries accordingly. He noted that the state government has gone very far in the process of resettlement and thanked the federal government for the continued support.
The items delivered to the state were 2,400 bundles of roofing zinc, 2,400 bags of cement, 7,000 pieces of timbers and 150 bags of roofing nails.
