Title: CrunchWeek: Facebook Home Madness
Post by: TechCrunch on Apr 08, 2013, 03:31 AM
It's time for CrunchWeek, (http://techcrunch.com/video/crunchweek/) that very special time each week when a few of us writers gather around the TechCrunch TV cameras to shoot the breeze about the biggest and most interesting stories from the past seven days.

Greg Kumparak (http://www.crunchbase.com/person/greg-kumparak), and Ryan Lawler (http://www.crunchbase.com/person/ryan-lawler) joined me in the studio this week to talk about Facebook Home, (http://techcrunch.com/2013/04/04/facebook-home-launch/) the social network's huge mobile announcement from Thursday. Facebook Home replaces your standard Android's homescreen with an immersive Facebook experience featuring full-screen photos, status updates, and notifications. Facebook also announced a special version of Home will come pre-installed on the new HTC First phone on AT&T.

Home is by some accounts a bold move (http://techcrunch.com/2013/04/05/facebook-home-winners-and-losers/) from CEO Mark Zuckerberg. It essentially turns Google's open Android platform into a Facebook-dominated experience (http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2013/04/04/android-facebooks-new-weapon-against-google/) and puts some of Google's premier apps like search (http://techcrunch.com/2013/04/04/facebook-home-boots-google-search-off-the-homescreen-on-most-android-phones/) and Gmail in the background. What's more, some have questioned the privacy implications (http://gigaom.com/2013/04/04/why-facebook-home-bothers-me-it-destroys-any-notion-of-privacy/) around Facebook Home. We tackled all of these issues around Facebook Home and much more–tune in above!
