NPR's Moscow correspondent Corey Flintoff reported earlier this month that Medvedev appears increasingly isolated from the center of power (http://www.npr.org/2013/04/02/175917448/once-championed-by-putin-medvedev-falls-precipitously-out-of-favor) and may have been the target of a campaign to wreck his reputation.
