There is the need to revolutionize the health system in order to enhance the provision of qualitative health care delivery programme.
Ogun state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Olaokun Soyinka who made this assertion said one sure way of doing this was through Community Based Health Insurance Scheme. Soyinka bore his mind in Abeokuta at a stakeholders’ meeting with Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) on Community Based Health Insurance Scheme. Dr. Soyinka said it was in realization of this that the Ogun State Government had formulated all-encompassing health policy which had the insurance scheme as one of its cornerstones to make its healthcare delivery system more efficient, equitable, accessible, affordable and sustainable for residents. “There is need to revolutionize the health system through health Insurance that will be owned and controlled by the community” Soyinka remarked. He noted that the community-based health insurance scheme introduced in the State would eliminate out of pocket spending on health care by individuals, imploring the residents to embrace the scheme. Contributing, the Zonal coordinator, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Pharmacist Taiye Adeleye commended the State Government for adopting the scheme, saying that it would ensure free health care for pregnant women, children below age five and the elderly. Adeleye enthused that it would go a long way in bringing about rapid improvement in the health indices of the country.
