The Teaching Service Commission in Ogun State has again read the riot act to Principals of public schools in the State to desist from collecting illegal fees from students, particularly those writing the on-going Senior Secondary Certificate examinations.
Chairman of the Commission, Ms. Olubukunola Onabanjo who handed down the warning while monitoring the on-going examination at Sango Ota High School in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area, said anyone caught in the act would be sanctioned accordingly.
“ I will be very sad if I hear that any student is being prevented from writing the on-going WAEC examination because of any levy whatsoever as our Governor has paid for the exam fees of all students in the State and any principal who does so will be sanctioned” Ms. Onabanjo warned.
She restated that the State Government stand on the provision of free qualitative education to pupils and students of public school had not changed, cautioning that Principals should not do any thing that could put this lofty programme of government in jeopardy.
The TESCOM boss called that all hands must be placed on the deck to ensure that the affordable and qualitative education programme of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun-led administration achieved the desired result, pointing out that the government had invested heavily in both human capital and infrastructural development of the education sector.
In her contributions, the Principal – General, Yewa Division, Alhaja Hafsat Ayinde, maintained that principals must shun acts that could bring the name of the commission into disrepute, stressing that anyone caught violating government’s directives on its education policy would be brought to book.
