Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun today inaugurated a Board for the newly constituted Technical and Vocational Education with a charge on members to work tirelessly towards reviving lost glory of technical education in the State.
Addressing members of the Board chaired by a one time Commissioner in the State, Dr. (Mrs) Doyin Ogunbiyi, Governor Amosun enjoined them to work towards repositioning the technical and vocational centres so that they would be able to provide the manpower needed to drive the growing number of industries in the state.
He charged the Board to go all out to address the huge deficit in the sector, saying that “technical education is a very strategic aspect that will help create wealth and bring out the creativity, craftsmanship as well as entrepreneurial spirit in the youths.’’
Lamenting the dearth of technical and vocational education in the country, he said that, “these days, we run to other African countries to look for capable technicians’’, noting that, “these are areas we used to take pride in as a nation’’
The Governor also called on the State’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to work out modalities for including vocational studies in the school curriculum, challenging the board to interface meaningfully with private the sector, the ultimate beneficiaries of its products.
In her remarks, the Board Chairman, Dr. Ogunbiyi commended Governor Amosun for his vision which brought to fruition, a dream which had been conceived 20 years, assuring that, ‘’the Board will co-operate in delivering the mandate of the State Government.’’.
She assured that the Board would be committed to connecting the State strategically with relevant agencies to access grants and aids as well as obtain accreditation and receive invitation to developmental fora.
